Should I re-title this 'My Tea Blog'?

So I was going to write something concise and wordy and everything, but I just don't know if that's going to happen tonight. It's Sunday (as usual) going into my last week of classes for the term (thank gosh!), and I'm drinking tea. However, I've only had 2 cups of tea today, with a third sitting beside me steaming - I'm down a bit from usual because today's been a bit busy. Which is a bit sad. Also, there's not terribly much to recap about my week.

I've discovered that I much prefer the game 'Dominion' to the game 'Settlers of Catan', but neither's my cup of tea; I've bought my little sister's birthday present (Happy birthday Wednesday, Bug!!); I've finished a paper; and I've borrowed a bunch of music from my little sister. Currently, I'm listening to Christina Perri's 'Jar of Hearts' on repeat. And that almost sums up my week. Almost.

I've got to be like, one of the only people looking forward anxiously to tomorrow. This is because I'm expecting an email from a company that I want to work for this summer holding a job description that I'm to read. After reading said description, I'm to tell them if I'm still interested in the job and they'll continue to consider my resume. I'm fairly certain I want the job after looking over the website and everything, so I'm excited. This is also the first company that's even acknowledged receiving my job application and resume, so I'm excited that they're even showing this much interest in me and acknowledging my existence. So yeah, that's why I'm all like... Hyped for a Monday (on which I have to be up at 5:45am).

In other news... Well... I went to work again today?! Haha, such an exciting life I'm working right now, right? Drink tea, go to school, go to work, do homework, try to catch up on Doctor Who, see friends... Actually, I see Ray-Ray at work, but I need to see her socially. I should arrange to do that! I think I have a new idea of something to do this week - arrange to see people (Actually, I went out Friday, hence the games. I was invited to a pub-crawl but had already said yes to this. Next time maybe the pub-crawl..), finish term (ack, two tests to study for!!), work on a Friday night, celebrate Bug's birthday, maybe start a paper that's due during exam period, and finish 2 novels. When I'm done my last few assigned novels, I'll update y'all on how many books I've read in the past 8 months. You may be blown away.

However, I think it's time to finish my cup of tea, listen to a bit more music, close a text conversation in which I'm trying to encourage a friend who has crazy amounts of work to do, and go to bed. I'll talk (type) at y'all later!

(I'm just realizing how ego centric this whole Blog thing is. But I'll come up with something insightful to say one day... Any clues??!)

Oidhche mhath :) (no I can't properly pronounce that. But I've been told it means "Good night" in Scottish Gaelic. Please correct me if I'm wrong!!)http://zombee1990.deviantart.com/art/Jar-of-Hearts-172884435

Classics, Classical, and Tea

It's that time again.. Sunday night, and I've been studying and drinking copious amounts of tea (I'm on my third cup in about 2 hours, again). This means that a blog is probably in order, and that tonight, it's actually going to happen. I thought of giving this blog a point and a distinct point, then I realized that sort of defeated the purpose. However, there are a few things that happened this week that I though were worth mentioning.

First of all, I'm no longer in 'Archaeology'. My class is now titled 'History of Ancient Muggle Studies'. Now this wasn't an entirely random occurrence. I went to class one day, sat down and just kinda glanced around. The guy down the row settled into his seat (and because I'm a creeper(?) the movement attracted my eye) and began pulling out his stuff. First he pulled out a notebook, normal. Then he pulled out a quill. Nothing fancy, just a straight quill, slight feather, with a silver nib. This isn't so normal - most people use a ballpoint pen, laptop or pencil. I've seen fountain pens used, but not often. So that caught my eye. Especially when he pulled out a small ink bottle and set these up totally seriously like normal. So, I thought this was awesome and texted a friend. Her reply to this all was to ask if this occurred in DADA and when I said no she renamed my class (so that it fit more into the Hogwarts curriculum). I'm now taking 'History of Ancient Muggle Studies.' I'm stoked.

The second thing I wanted to mention isn't quite as awesome, but it's still there. I've renamed 'Twilight' as 'Gloaming'. I've come across this word a few times while reading various Victorian works (War of the Worlds and Dorian Gray in particular), and having looked it up in the glossaries it is defined simply as 'twilight'. To me this world is slightly more depressing sounding and not quite as magical as the word 'twilight', and thus I've decided that I'm going to use it in reference to the book series. Don't get me wrong, I read Twilight, and at the time that I read it I enjoyed it - it was simple to read and slightly entertaining. But as a stickler for 'good' or 'passable' English in novels (which you can't tell in these, but they're not published works!) and somewhat more normal fantastic characters (glittery vampires?! no. I'm sorry, but Dracula wasn't glittery) I have to say I'm a bit bothered by the books. Not really the books themselves actually, but the hype around them - Team Jacob or Team Edward? No thanks, I'm sticking with Harry Potter.... But yeah, that was my second 'big thing' to mention. Not in the least bit epic, but rather entertaining for me. Especially since I really like the word 'gloaming' now. :)

I suppose while I'm telling you about my week I could mention quotes? Because there were a few entertaining ones said this week (both by professors!). My Novels professor was referring a book to another girl in the class because she had mentioned an interest in a particular subject. He had just received a book on said subject and was giving it to her to read. In doing so he admitted that he had not yet read the book and said it "might be a little bit like a Mars Bar - enjoyable to eat but with little additional value." I think this is one of my favourite random quotes from a professor.

However, it's rivaled by my Medieval and Renaissance Scottish Literature prof randomly saying that some one was "going to fly like a lead zeppelin... Straight down." Now, here I might argue in the context of music. If you flew like a Led Zeppelin, you'd be soarin'. They had great hits and are still listened to widely today (by myself included). However, the pun on words here was awesomely fun in context, and got a snicker out of me. I think I may have been one of the few who caught this gem though.. Everyone else looked a little confused while the professor was grinning.

So yeah, that's my week in a nutshell and quotes - went to classes, did work, saw a movie (Red Riding Hood - so not what I was wanting it to be. So not worth seeing again. Ever.), went to work, got some awesome new porcelain plates from my Grandma (okay so they're not 'new' they were hers and she no longer wanted them, but they're wicked and have fable scenes on them), did research and homework and drank far too much tea. Tea is wonderful, and I think I've been nearly hooked up to a tea IV all week. It's been magnificent. :)

Dragons and ice shows

So it's Sunday night again, and that means that it's the start of a whole new week. Which is awesome. This week is filled with tonnes of potential, so long as I can keep myself strictly on track - which so far isn't working too well, but that's fine. It's Sunday, not Monday yet. This week's goal is to read two novels - Godwin's Caleb Williams and Wells' The War of the Worlds. I'm also supposed to read Belinda, but it just may not happen this week - I've got to sleep sometime too, right? But that's irrelevant, it's Sunday. I'd recap on my week and all that good stuff, but honestly, only two things happened that are worth too much notice: a). I went out Thursday night to karaoke with some friends and it was super fun (more news to follow?) and b). I performed in the ice show Saturday, and it was pretty cool too. Also, dragons should floss their teeth. Honestly, who wants to see their last meal stuck, especially when you know it used to be your bestie? Honestly.

The long and short of my weekend/Saturday is that the afternoon performance was worse than the night performance (as per usual), it was waaaay darker than I expected and the lights were brighter, and it was a blast. Honestly, it's a performance - it's supposed to be fun, laid back, low pressure performance to show what you can do, and it was. Except the part where I fell. More than once.  But that's normal, I spend about 3/4 of my time on the ice on my butt. You take a klutz, strap knives to her feet and push her out onto a slippery surface and what's going to happen? She'll wind up on her butt. Possibly with concussions at different times (apparently I've had several of these, none of which I remember). But yeah, so the ice show went really well, and then I helped clean everything up (which means I got to kick a pirate ship into pieces.. After we took a bunch of the plywood off!), came home, had a shower and tried to wash pink glitter off of me and out of my hair, sat around, and went to bed. Then today I worked and went to Grandma's for dinner and now I'm here, spilling my.... random thoughts? Although I'll admit, I could be much more random..

I could mention, for example, that I can touch my toe to my ear. Because I randomly decided to see if I still could, and I can. Or I could mention that I just found more PINK GLITTER in my room >.< or that my dog is snoring behind me, and just made me jump by moving him feet and pushing my desk chair forwards. But I refrained from all that (until now :P) and actually stuck to a topic. This is a pretty big deal for me, I'm a bit of a random person, unless I have a story to tell. And right now, I don't think I do. I mean, how many times and ways can one say "today I tried to make money/do homework/sleep/eat/be responsible and do a million things" and actually make sense? Nah, this is more of a verbal spewing of key points, and even those you're not going to get all of the details on because of... I'll say for the sake of confidentiality for now. But really it's because I'm lazy and don't want to put in a million details, I haven't asked if my friends would mind me mentioning their names on the internet, and my weekend was so busy that I couldn't tell you all about it. Because then I'd have to remember every detail, wrack my brains, and yeah.. Basically I'm lazy. But I think I've forgotten where I was going with this - I went to get some munchies, came back, went onto facebook, and then remembered about this. Which means I should go to bed so that I can be up at 6:00am (fml) for class tomorrow. Which is actually like, 5 am because of "this morning"'s time change. Gross.... Ciao! (one day I'll learn cool words for goodbye or something. Tonight's it's just ciao)

The time has come

"'The time has come,' the walrus said, 'to talk of many things'" (Lewis Carroll), and that's exactly what I'm about to set out to do. I'm not sure exactly how much I'm going to say, but we'll see, shall we? I could start at the verrrry beginning and tell you about when I was born, and how big I was and all that, but it wouldn't be very interesting and is certainly not relevant at the moment. All you really need to know is that I grew up (and still reside) on an island somewhere in Canada, and that I love it here. Also, I live with my parents because I'm a full time student at a University not far away, and I'm poor. But I'm debt free, so I get kudos for that! :)

Annnywwaaay, I thought I'd originally document my schooling experience, but that got shot seeing as I'm in my third year of University and am not recapping those last few years. They were long and not really remarkable, so they don't warrant much comment. To sum it up though, I took 2 years of a BSc, hated it, and am now a 3rd year student in a BA and loving it. Being in Canada, you'd think I'd be doing a bunch of newer English courses and all that, yes? Well I'm not. One of my favourite courses this term is "Medieval and Renaissance Scottish Literature" and I really wish my University offered Gaelic because I think it would be fascinating and really fun to have. I also realize that I would probably have the strangest accent - even my French accent is strange (and NO, I don't speak fluent French. I only have my Grade 11, because French 12 was horrible at my highschool). When I told my mother I wanted to learn Gaelic, she replied with "Oh, that's nice. My grandfather spoke Gaelic with my grandmother. So did Art." Well, that helps me a lot, right? Nope, because they've been gone for a while. Actually, I never got a chance to meet them (may they Rest in Peace), and so knowing that they spoke a dying language that I want to learn and am unable to learn without travelling or extensive internet searches is slightly frustrating. However, I digress.

I'm also taking a bunch of courses on the Novel currently, but the most recent Novel I'm studying (in 4 of the Novel courses I'm taking) is George Orwell's War of the Worlds. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled with most of my readings (well, maybe not the political novels from the 18th Century), but I'm just pointing out - I'm steeped in history. Mainly history centered around the UK. Which may explain my desire to go there. It probably doesn't though, because really, I want to travel and at this point I'm not terribly picky as to where. My sister's going on a mission to Honduras, and I'd be okay with that. Even across the country would be alright, but I think that's just the end of term buzz setting in. I can't wait for summer!

That's another thing - summer. 4 months of freedom, right? Nope! Student=poor=work all summer. Fun? Well, mostly sometimes? I work with my best friend, so that's awesome. I also work with the public, so that's not quite as awesome. Repeatedly asking how people's days are going gets a bit old after the first.... hour or four. Other than that, I guess my job's okay. although, I am trying to find a new one. But that's because working 4 years in a grocery store is just getting old and I need to try something new; maybe something that pertains to my course of study.

Looks like I've rambled on a bit though. I came into this with no idea of what to type, and I'm leaving it with no real idea of what I've typed. I guess it's a general summary of my life and self, but it probably isn't really. I'll look back on it one day and wonder what the heck I was thinking, I'm fairly certain. But that doesn't really matter, because it's an introductory blog. One that doesn't matter too much, unless people decide that it's the only one they're going to read. If that's the case, well, ta. Enjoy yourselves, eh? (I had to sneak it in there. So stereotypical, I know. But it works. Now to work skookum in somewhere too... hmmm...). If you're going to stick with me, I wish you the best of luck. I'm random and whimsical (if this wasn't an example), and I'm realllly bad at staying on topic (wasn't I saying goodbye when I started this paragraph?), but I can't do it all. If you think this is bad, when I'm moderating what I say, you should meet me in person. Promise I say random things! But I guess it's time to go. Time to finish up some Scots Lit reading and pour my third cup of tea for the night :)
